Mahaz condemns house arrest of Pro-freedom leaders

President Jammu Kashmir Mahaz-e-Azadi (MeA) Mir Mohammad Iqbal in a statement has uttered a tough denunciation for placing Pro-freedom leaders continuously under stringent house arrest. Hurriyet leaders and activists are not allowed to move-out and their movements have been cogently restricted which gives the factual face depiction of New Delhi - who paradoxically enchants for the claim, to be the world’s biggest democracy-here in Kashmir She has marred peoples honorable democratic right-right of right to self determination, Mir said.
In the attire of futile parliamentary elections ,whole of the South Kashmir has been converted into a military garrison , where countless checked points have been erected and people are asked to remain in queues for gamboling after almost every 250 yards ,which has caused redundant trouble not only to commuters but also to inhabitants of the area, Iqbal said. President MeA maintained that Kashmir is bleeding and still the conflict continues to be unresolved after more than six decades, fuelling the conventional and nuclear arms race between Pakistan and India - not only drains economy but also consumes their productive human resources -both countries have gone to conventional wars on several occasions over Kashmir and the possibility of war between the two countries has become frightening in the given circumstances of being the nuclear powers within the region ; therefore both countries must give flexibility with a new thought to their political stand, and restart the result oriented discourse on their bilateral disputes giving prominence to the core issue (Kashmir) which can be resolved in the format of tripartite consultations, respecting the desires, wishes and aspirations of common stock of people of Jammu Kashmir as the prime party to the dispute.

Mahaz Condemns house arrest of pro-freedom leaders

President Jammu Kashmir Mahaz-e-Azadi(MeA)Mir Mohammad Iqbal has strongly denounced to place Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference(APHC) Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Umer Farooq under stringent house arrest besides several other pro-freedom leaders. Even though Mirwaiz has been barred to lead Juma Congregation at historical Jamia Masjid - reveals the epoch of early 19th century: the tyrant Sikh ruler to Kashmir has applied almost same pattern. New Delhi seems to be scared of pro-freedom pacifist political activities of APHC leaders and caging them entails that their intentions are pretty clear that is to submit an the application of “forced democracy” in Kashmir, Iqbal said. Mir maintained that elections in Kashmir is a futile practice and Kashmiris better know that India is again trying to encourage puppet regimes or those who have remain part to it, through their conduits therefore all pro-freedom people of Kashmir reject these sham elections which have no bearing on the resolution of Kashmir.

Over 60,000 Kashmiris are victims of torture: Navlakha

In occupied Kashmir, a noted Indian human rights activist, Gautam Navlakha has said that every Kashmiri is a victim of one or the other form of torture and more than 60,000 Kashmiris have experienced third degree torture at the hands of Indian armed forces in the past 20 years.
Gautam Navlakha while speaking at a seminar “Campaign against Torture”, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Rights` Movement in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) in Baramulla, said that phenomenon of torture, which had been used from time to time as weapon by Indian troops in the Valley, would stop only when draconian Armed Forces Special Power Act was revoked.
Navlakha said that torture was considered a potent weapon in the sub-conventional warfare and India had been using it in Kashmir to curb the movement of right to self-determination. He said that it is very difficult to get justice for torture in India because there is no law in Indian constitution, which can deliver justice to the victims of torture. “Due to this reason in most circumstances it is futile to approach law,” he added.
The rights activist said that in the light of United Nations` definition of torture, every single person of Kashmir had been a victim of torture “as they had been living in the presence of 7,00,000 hostile Indian troops.” “Physical torture has evidence like injury marks etc but a victim of mental torture, which every Kashmiri certainly is, has no evidence to plead his case,” he added. Navlakha maintained that unless Kashmiris were freed from the clutches of Indian forces and given a chance to decide their future these things would continue to happen.
Another human rights activist, Parvez Imroz said that India had been using torture as a weapon of war to terrorize people and to curb the political movement of right to self-determination. “There are about four lakh people who have been tortured from a moderate to severe degree. 99 percent of all those who are arrested are subjected to torture,” he said.
Other speakers on the occasion emphasized the need to encourage the survivors of torture so that they would not feel isolated in the society. They also expressed their concern over the silence of the international organizations working on the issue of torture in different countries.
